The knee is important for all activities including walking, running, jumping, and squatting. Knee pain can be a major problem and lead to decreased activity and disability. 

Symptoms of knee pain include:

- Dull ache
- Intense sharp, shooting pain
- Stiffness, decrease range of motion
- Difficulty with walking or bearing weight
- Swelling
- Crunching or popping sensation
- Feeling of instability or "giving away"

Your knee symptoms may vary, but early identification and treatment may reduce or alleviate your pain and prevent long-term knee problems or chronic pain. 

Causes of knee pain?

- Arthritis
- Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears
- Meniscus tears
- Patellofemoral instability
- Cartilage injury
- Fracture
- Malalignment 

 

What should I expect during a clinic visit for knee pain ?

Dr Boes is an experienced orthopedic surgeon with extensive training in the knee. He will perform a comprehensive physical exam during your evaluation. The goal of the exam will be to identify the problem to come up with an effective treatment plan that fits your goals and expectations.

During the clinic visit, in addition to reviewing your medical history and performing the physical exam, X-rays and MRI are often needed to help confirm or rule out causes of knee pain.

How is knee pain treated?

Dr Boes will create a personalized treatment plan for your knee pain based on the cause, degree of symptoms, and your expectations/goals. 

 

Often times, knee pain can be treated without surgery, but in some cases, surgery will be necessary to address the problem. Dr Boes can perform many arthroscopic knee surgeries, as well as, uni-compartmental, and total knee replacement.
